In 1961 Helmut Schäfer founded the company
Ing. Helmut Schäfer, Maschinen- und Apparatebau. Initially the company manufactured and assembled components for hydraulic powered mine roof supports

In 1972 Udo Schäfer (the son of Helmut Schäfer) joined the company and the drive technology department was founded. The production was taken over by Helmut Schäfer Vertrieb GmbH (est. 1972) which was 1975 renamed to BIKON-Technik, Welle-Nabe-Verbindungen, Helmut Schäfer GmbH.

In 1979, together with his father, Udo Schäfer founded Schäfer GmbH, Maschinen- und Apparatebau.

In 1980, the company aquired permission to manufacture Shrink Discs (DBP 1 294 751) from Werner Winkelhaus.

In 1995 Schäfer GmbH, Technik für Antrieb und Steuerung was granted the European Patent
(EP 0 812 397) for hydraulic shrink discs.

Since 2006 the company has been trading under the name of TAS Schäfer GmbH.

Today, highly-developed power transmission components are produced in Wetter / Wengern Germany, at our 7400m2 site by approximately
40 employees. Our products are proudly manufactured to service our worldwide customer base.
